Hello Maicurlies,

Here is my second styling tutorial using the Avocurl Line – Conditioning Butter.

My Curly Hair Morning & Night Time Routine

Helloooo Maicurlies,

Morning & Night Routine

Yes she is finally back with an actual tutorial & video! I know I have been terrible and a little Missing In Action on both my Blog and YouTube (if you don’t already follow me on Instagram please do because I tend to post a lot on there) but I have been away, getting back into “regular routine” and working on a few projects so I do apologize.

Today’s post is based on a request; I was asked to share my morning and night routine so share I shall. Now before I get into the post and demonstrate (in the video below) I will point out that my night routine tends to be the same pretty much all the time apart from if I re-braid/re-twist/re-bantu knot my hair. So, for the most part if my hair is down then this is what I do every night and yes the same applies for my mornings too.

Morning & Night Routine

Morning Routine Products/Tools

Method:

I take my hair down from my modified Pineapple (explained below) and first try and arrange, separate and gently manipulate my hair to arrange it. I then move onto my beloved scalp massage (read about it here). Then depending on how dry my hair is feeling I either use water, Spray Leave-In Conditioner or my Creamy Leave-In Conditioner to re-moisturize my hair. Again depending on my hair I will follow up with any carrier oil within reach to seal in the moisture. The final step is to use my Afro Pick to lift my roots and I am done!

Night Routine Products/Tools:

  • Satin/Silk Scarf

Method:

Instead of doing the traditional pineapple (a very loose and high ponytail using a hair bubble) I do the modified version where I skip the hair bubble. I lean forward to get my hair gathered together and cover with my scarf. I feel whenever I use a hair bubble it over stretches my hair (I do not need help on that front, the less the stretch the better for me). That is my night routine!

What is your Day and Night routine would love for you to share!

Thanks

Bouncy Braid-out On Fine Natural Hair

Hello Maicurlies,

Quickly jumping on here to share my latest obsession…yes I know I have many “current favorites”….favorite of the moment? Anyways, yes I am here with a styling post.

Braid and Curl

Braid and Curl

Yes, it is a braid and curl, I LOOOOVE this style Maicurlies! 1. it is simple to do, 2. it is quick to do, 3. it tends to get better (aka bigger and fluffier) as the days go on and 4. look at my volume (even on my fine hair)!

So I will quickly explain the products used, the process I used and then will let the Video demonstration from my YouTube channel do the rest.

Products/Tools

Process

Braid and Curl

I actually (oddly) prefer the results of doing this on wet hair (normally I prefer dry styling) but when I start on wet hair and incorporate the combination of products mentioned above I nearly always (95% of the time) get results I am super pleased with. I start on wet hair that was either co-washed or deep conditioned. While in the shower i detangle, split my hair into 3 and twist each section (left, right and center). My application process is: Leave-In, Oil, Gel. I make a total of 8 braids; 3 left, 3 right and 2 in the center and do not braid all the way down, just a little more than half way before wrapping my hair around the 8 perm rods.

I let my hair air dry overnight by pinning the braids down with bobby pins and covering with a silk scarf. The following morning I take down the braids with a little oil on my fingertips (any will do), separate sections and fluff the heck out of my hair with an Afro pick. That is it!

Thanks!

Medium Pin Curls on Fine Natural Hair

Hello Maicurlies,

So today I wanted to share my current obsession (actually I have yet another new one already) Pin Curls!

Medium Pin Curls

Let me tell you, I LOVE pin curls!!!!

What do I love about Pin Curls?

EVERYTHING! Since I have fine natural hair I tend to look for styles to helps to give me volume and the illusion of more density and pin curls give me that….they give me life! Generally I normally like to style on dry hair or slightly damp hair because I get more volume if my hair is not really wet but with pin curls regardless of whether I start on freshly washed hair or dry hair I adore the results! In my demo I did medium sized pin curls on freshly washed hair which gave me medium curls with bounce but they can be made smaller for tighter results or bigger for looser curls.

Products/Tools Used:

My styling process (especially when I start on wet hair) is to

  1. Set the Pin Curls
  2. Allow them to air dry
  3. Cover with a silk/satin scarf overnight
  4. Take down the bobby pins, separate the curls and style my hair (the following day)

However, there are times when I have to go out after setting my hair (example on the day when I recorded my video) so on those days I do my faux huge headwrap.

Faux huge Headwrap

No one knows my hair is curled up, pinned down and not in a big bun underneath and I don’t have to go out looking a little peculiar 😉 Then the following day I take down my hair and voila!

Here is my video of the process:

I would love to hear what you think! Do you do pin curls, would you try them?

Thanks

Birthday Look and What I did

Hey Maicurlies,

So this is going to be a quick post. It actually was my Birthday a week ago (the 7th) so I wanted to share a few details about what I did, what I did with my hair and all the goodies I got! My loved ones spoilt me rotten 😀

So this is what I did with my hair:

Birthday

Surprise surprise….a Twist Out! It turned out quite well so I was happy.

I used my leave-in conditioner (my updated mix which I need to post here soon), almond oil and a little whipped butter. I put my hair in 6 twists the night before, covered with a satin scarf and left them in until I was getting ready for the “celebrations”. I took down the twists, separated with a little almond oil on my fingers and fluffed.

So for my “celebration” I went out with my family to this AMAZING Mongolian Restaurant. The food was awesome! The menu included a soup as starter, your main course and dessert. For mains you get to select what you want which could be a mix of: chicken, beef, lamb, shrimp and then a selection of vegetables: carrots, paprika, onions, green beans, tomatoes, spring onions as well as the sauces of which there were about 6 to pick from. You give your bowl to the chef who cooks it in an open kitchen and did I mention you could go for seconds, thirds, etc as many as your stomach can hold! The meats and seafood is kept cold/frozen so that it remains fresh and like I said you could go for only chicken, a combo of chicken and meat and if you are really crazy a mix of both meats and seafood together! Yes I rolled out of there full and happy. Oh and my choice of drink was white wine.

After dinner I went out with my friends for a few drinks…a good number of drinks which were Lychee Martinis! I LOVE this cocktail! My curlfriend got me hooked on them so I had to drag my friends to the best spot for cocktails of course. We ended up in our local spot and was surpirsed with a lovely birthday cake.

Now what did I get in terms of presents? I really got spoilt rotten!

Ok so these are my goodies! My sister and I like to give each other random gifts that we call “silly gifts”. So I got the softest bathrobe/house robe  with matching shoes (It is sooooo soft I want to wear it all day everyday!), a square bean bag seat (silly gift), a cutting board (my sister said so I can prep food for her lol), plant ties (for my soon to be green garden), wireless speakers, red nail polish, iPod Shuffle, Galaxy S4, Tupperware (silly gift), boots (a girl can never have too many boots), kitchen trolley (so I can put all my DIY goodies and other ingredients!), money and I forgot to take a picture of 2 tops I also got.  😀 Can someone say spoilt!

It was a great Birthday 🙂 however, now I can no longer tick the box of 25 – 30…not so excited about that but hey!

Have a lovely day Maicurlies!

Protective Style & Castor Oil Week 4 Update

Another week done Maicurlies!

Protective Style Challenge Week 4

Protective Style Challenge Week 4

I am on the last 2 weeks of my Protective Style and Castor Oil challenge and haven’t given up yet! 😀

For a recap of my previous weeks click below:

How did my fourth week go?

It went by well. I was able to protect my hair for 6 days and used my Castor Oil Mix 4 times in the week. I did a REALLY simple updo at the start of the week (I don’t want to call it “boring”)  – the “Gibson Tuck” and then finished with what I call the “Chameleon Twist” (I liked this one!)

What Did I do?

  • I did my wash day routine on Sunday, a Henna Gloss followed by a moisturizing Deep Condition, moisturized and sealed before twisting 9  chunky twists.
  • Day 1 – After taking down the twists I massaged my Castor Oil Mix on my scalp, hairline, ends and put my hair in the Gibson Tuck with 2 two-strand twists on the side and a chunky two strand twist at the front – pinned as a “side bang”.

– After making one big two strand twist from 7 medium twists held at then center of my head I tucked away the ends of my hair by wrapping it around the base.

Chameleon twist with pompadour

  • Day 5 – I took the Chameleon Twist down and massaged my scalp (as best I could), hairline and the ends of each of the 7 twists with my Castor Oil Mix then wrapped it back up.
  • Day 6 – At night took my hair down, massaged my scalp, hairline and ends with the Castor Oil Mix and pineappled to sleep.
  • Day 7 – Wash day routine and then got my hair ready to be set for week 5.

Castor Oil Challenge:

As mentioned, I used the blend 4 times during the week and my hair was suuuuuper smooth, moisturized, shiny and soft! I think my whipped butter sort of helped with that as well (particularly on my ends). I had been using my DIY Spray Leave-In Conditioner to remoisturize my hair mid week but decided to use the Creamy Leave-in and whipped butter for a change. My hair LOVED the combination of being moisturized and super sealed. I can’t say it enough, castor oil is the truth and when combined with other nourishing ingredients …bye bye dryness!

Looking forward to the last 2 weeks.

What do you think of the styles I did this week?

Long Fluffy Puff

Hey Maicurlies!

I’ve got a new styling video up of how I do my long fluffy puff!

I sometimes wish my hair were a little shorter because I would be able to call it my fluffy Afro puff but gravity likes to pull my hair downwards (not that I am complaining about my hair.)

Products/Tools used:

Styling Tutorial

I did this style on day 3 of a Wash-N-Go and my hair was a little frizzy and dry so I needed to first remoisturize it by applying water, leave-in conditioner and to seal a little oil.

After moisturizing I separate a section of hair at the front with a hair bubble because I will style that section last.

Separate front

I then apply a little gel to the edges of my sides and brush them back gently.

I collect and pin my hair down in the middle of my head till I have pinned all the hair on one side. (I use two bobby pins crisscrossing them over each other until I reach the back where I only use one bobby pin.)

Use bobby pins to hold hair

I repeat the gel, brush, and pin routine on the other side.

repeat on second side

I then style the front by first spritzing a little water, adding a little gel, brushing the edges.

I like to give myself a little “pompadou” or bump at the front and then pin the hair down.

create pompadou

I like to fluff my hair out to make it bigger and then fix areas that need fixing.

And voila!

What do you think? How do you make your fluffy puff or Afro puff? Would love to hear from you!
