About Maicurls

I got inspired write a blog due to my passion about my Natural Hair. It took me a while to find my way with my Hair...but I wouldn't change a thing now! I basically got to know my Hair through the help I found online (YouTube, Forums, Blogs etc) and want to "give back" by sharing what I have learnt over the years. My blog mainly consists of information about Natural Hair Care, Do It Yourself recipes and and tips I've learnt from all of you. I also share Skin Care and Health (Exercise) tips.

To watermark or not watermark that is the question

Good Evening All,

watermark

So I was showing a family member my Blog (for the first time) and while she liked it she also told me that I should put Watermarks on my photos. This is something I thought about at first but forgot to be honest! Now do not get me wrong. I am not saying that my photos are OH SO AMAZING or that I have “special” shots nor that I am so stunning that people will want to have my pictures (LOL) but it is for property rights. (If someone wants to take the photos and use them without permission there is nothing I can really do – I will probably never know anyways.) But it makes sense that I at least try so I am going to be doing that with all my own photos on here.

In case there are missing images etc it is because I am replacing them with photos that have Watermarks. *(Update) – I have replaced all the pictures…I still feel weird about it… they make me feel like I think my pictures are ‘oh so impressive’ (which I do not!) If anyone wants to use my pictures please feel free to contact me about the photo you want to use.

That’s all! 🙂

Have a nice day!

Thanks

Henna & Amla Explanation, Mix & Application Videos

DSC03132 DSC03174

Hello World Wide Web!

So I just did a my Strengthening Deep Conditioner (DC) – Henna & Amla (well I did it a few days ago) and let me tell you I do not know why I was so lazy with this DC AGAIN. (I slacked a lot recently) but every time I redo it I fall in love with these Ayurvedic Herbs all over again! I made two different videos, edited them and have them up! My Henna and Amla Explanation video does as the name implies: explains what I use, why I use it and how I use the DC. I also added in extra information such as the benefits of using  Ayurvedic Herbs. (I only lightly touched on the topic in the video because it started to get too long!)

The second video Strengthening Deep Conditioner  demonstrates how I actually mix up my DC as well as how I apply it,  I think my DIY Henna /Amla DC section under ‘Mai Hair Routines’ pretty much covers the content of both the videos.

I hope the information is informative!

Thanks

Feature on Black Hair Information

Hello Ladies & Gents,

So I was lucky enough to get My Hair Story to be featured on the beautiful Ms. Alma Ruddock’s website Black Hair Information. I have to say I love her site! It is filled and I mean filled with a lot of hair care, tips, stories etc. If you have not already checked it out you must! I have already added it to my “Must Read” sites/blog list. This is the link to Black Hair Information. It basically honers all hair not just natural hair so there is information on there for ladies and/or gents with relaxed hair as well.

So as I said, I managed to get my story on her site, you can find it here. I really do love reading about other people’s stories and always found them so helpful while I was on my own journey (I still find them helpful today 4 years later!) I figured putting my story on there might possibly help someone out as well!

Hope you have a lovely day!

Thanks

My Exercise Programs

Hello World Wide Web!

CIMG1520

I just wanted to note down a few lines. I have added a page dedicated to my workout programs in my ‘Health’ section under the title of “Working Out“. I basically wanted to share the schedules I made up for myself. Currently I have my Elliptical and Fitness Blender Program jotted down for you guys! This is just to give you an idea of what you can do for yourself. I have a tone that I have made for myself over the years. As I said in my ‘Health’ page, I get bored quite easily so I have been through a ton of different programs but so far I am really enjoying Fitness Blender and since I have an Elliptical Machine at home what more could I ask for?!

If anyone would like to see more of my exercise programs just leave me a message and I would be happy to share them!

Have a great day!

Thanks

New Pages Added

I feel like I am writing in a diary at times LOL.

Well anyways… I have added a few new pages! One is dedicated to my viewers (soon to be viewers)! I hope that with time there will be people who will be interested to be featured on the blog. It will be all about you and your curls. I find pages like this so inspiring. I actually was features on kinkycurlycoilymen.com (I put up information on that in the previous post). I love reading about other peoples stories/journey’s so I figured why not add this as well! Apart from your hair stories I also added a section for the favorite hair styles you love wearing.

I guess with time… hopefully… the blog will pick up and people will want to share their stories & pictures.

I also added a page with my YouTube videos. This allows you to just watch my routines/tutorials which can sometimes be easier to do instead of trying to sift through all my blahblahblah ;). Right that is it for now!

Have a lovely day!

Thanks

Feature on Kinky Curly Coily Me

Hi everyone,

So I decided to contact Jenell Stewart from Kinky Curly Coiley Me (KCCM). This gorgeous lady has a beautiful blog that is informative and very inspiring. She gives a breakdown of everything about her hair, her journey, routines as well as sharing other peoples helpful tips! She also has a features page which I always find so inspiring (these sorts of pages seem to speak to me). So I decided that I wanted to share my natural hair journey on her blog in hopes that it might help/inspire someone else!

I have posted a link to the feature on her blog (here). If some of you are looking for inspiration take a look at Ms. Stewart’s page (link above)

Thanks

Hair Trimming!

scissor

Source: http://office.microsoft.com/

Good Morning!

Over the last few weeks I have been saying that I needed to “trim” my ends a little because they were starting to look a little raggedy. When I had initially first done my small twists I basically just snipped off a very tiny amount of my ends and left it at that because I said I would cut them properly once I took the twists down. So last night after taking my twists down I decided it was time for a snip.

I usually cut my hair myself. In my area the hairdressers do not know what to do with curly hair (my experience at least). When I went to a hairdresser I always asked ‘have you done curly hair before ‘ and the majority of the time they say no (I am glad they are honest about it). For some reason those who said yes seemed to always have forgotten how to care for curly hair when I happen to be sitting down in front of them!  So when I have gone for a “trim” I always feel battered and bruised afterwards because they do not know how to get through my curly hair gently. It is always a tug of war between the curls and brushes so the last time I went to a ‘professional’ in 2012 I said never again.

Anyways so last night I decided I wanted to try and trim the ends and at the same time try to even out my hair a little. I have different lengths all over my head so I thought I would try get them a little closer to even. (The hair in the middle of my head seems to grow a little slower than the rest). Now the problem is I always over trim! ALWAYS! And I ALWAYS kick myself after I trim because I end up feeling like I snipped off too much. I love length in my hair because I feel it suits my face better but this time was no different…. I was a little to scissor happy!

The thing to keep in mind is that it will grow back (I keep telling myself that)! I know it was time for a trim but I think in “trying to get things even” I took off a little too much. I snipped about 2 inches off and was trimming bits that I thought looked “off”.

The back of my hair has and always will be longer than the front but this time I feel the front is a little too short. (I will add some photos later).I am sitting here with my cleanser in my hair and will be detangling soon so once my was day process is over and my hair is air dried I will take photos.

I will get over it in a few days I always do but after that euphoric feeling after first trimming my hair hair (I love the feeling of smooth ends) follows the realization that I cut my hair LOL. Then comes that “oh you did it again dammit”! And after a few days comes “it will grow back”. I just need to keep in mind that my ends are healthier now!

How do you feel after a hair trim/cut?

Skin Care Written Up

Alright guys so I just wanted to give you a very quick summary of all the Skin Care Routine write-ups I have done so far (04.09.2013)

I have basically written up ALL of my Skin Care Routines. I not only show the ingredients I use to create my DIY products but I also provide the quantities I use, mixing instructions and application process.  As and when I make videos I will be adding image demonstrations of the application or mixing processes because it is a little easier to follow if there are pictures along with the write-ups.

The Skin Care Routine Write-ups I have are:

Click here to go to my Skin Care Routines Page. I also added a section of alternatives that you can use!

I really do hope you guys find this interesting!
