About Maicurls

I got inspired write a blog due to my passion about my Natural Hair. It took me a while to find my way with my Hair...but I wouldn't change a thing now! I basically got to know my Hair through the help I found online (YouTube, Forums, Blogs etc) and want to "give back" by sharing what I have learnt over the years. My blog mainly consists of information about Natural Hair Care, Do It Yourself recipes and and tips I've learnt from all of you. I also share Skin Care and Health (Exercise) tips.

Going-natural.com Hair Diary

Hi Maicurlies!

CIMG3452

A few days ago I was contacted by the Ms. Mia Press, the Social Media Manager of going-natural.com and was asked if I would be interested to do a “Hair Diary”. I was happy to make the video and went to do some research on other Hair Diaries done by Natural Heads on the site. Do take a look here at videos made by some stunning natural heads…all very inspiring! 😀

The site offers both genders a chance of answering some questions in regards to their hair, their journey, the ups and downs etc. So if you are interested in perhaps making a video that might inspire someone else take a look at “The Going Natural Video Diaries” page. All the questions are listed there as well as details of how you can send in your video. Mine can be located on my YouTube channel and I did link it here on my blog. It will be up on going-natural.com as well. Once it is I shall make a quick post.

If you have a video somewhere or something similar I would love to watch or hear about it! Let me know!

Thanks

Over The Last 4 Years… Transitioning to Natural

Hi Maicurlies,

From my Transition to my Natural Curls

From my Transition to my Natural Curls

Last night I was reminiscing by going through photos of my friends, family and I and started going as far back as the year 2000! As I was going through the photos I kept on cringing the further back I went…why you ask? Well apart from some of my “fashion sense” which were questionable and cringe worthy at times… I noticed how my hair looked! Now I really do not know if at the time I was living in my own little bubble (I do remember not liking my hair at all) but I never seemed to be at the point where I wanted to hide indoors because of my hair. Although looking back now I maybe should have! Anyways so I was clicking through photos and decided to collect a few of them to make a sort of “montage of time” (I miss developing actual photos…technology!)

I simply did this in the hopes that it might help motivate someone out there that is considering going natural, transitioning, recently Big Chopped or Newly Natural (perhaps even already Natural!) It is funny looking back at how my hair has changed since going natural. Apart from the obvious drastic improvement after I stopped using relaxers and actually taking care of my hair I notice a change from when I finally stopped using chemical dyes. I was a dye FREAK! I went through colors like people change clothes! It did have its toll on my hair which is why I personally choose to stop. Anyways ladies I think the pictures summarize what I am trying to say :)!

So if anyone is reading this and is in need of a little inspiration…I hope this will be a form of comfort. I started out with what I now call a bit of dry, brittle, fragile, thin and strangely colored straw-like hair (after my last relaxer and transition) to what I proudly call Maicurlz!!! 😀

I have posted the same picture in a new page under the “Mai Hair Journey” Tab called – ‘(2009 – 2013) Summary Look’ but added some details of each row.

I would LOVE to hear from you! What has your experience been? Have you gone through photos too? Are you considering going natural? Transitioning? Big Chopping for 2014? Let me know!

Thanks

Second Styling Video – Ballet Bun is up on YouTube

A lovely Good Morning All!

Ballet Bun (No Donut used)

Ballet Bun (No Donut used)

This is just a quick post to state that I have my 2nd Styling Video the “Ballet Bun” up on YouTube! As always I also have a link here. I also plan on finally writing up my “Normal Regular Bun” tutorial and the “Ballet Bun” tutorial. I am brain storming on how and when I will be doing different styles so I will get there …eventually :D.

It is funny how much more comfortable I am behind a computer screen as opposed to in front of the camera… I still need to work on that.

Anywho… I also recorded my first “Skin Care” video on my Face & Body Scrub so I am editing a few videos at the moment. As soon as something has been loaded up you will be the first to know!

Have a fantastic day Maicurlies!

Thanks

Natural Ingredients for Hair Up

Hello Maicurlies!

list of natural ingredients for hair

I finally wrote the first of my Natural Ingredients list here. I decided to add it to the heading of “Mai Tips – Hair” . What I have done is to include the ingredients I use/have used as well as some of the popular natural ingredients (that I have come across – some of which I have not had the chance to use.) I could not write every single aspect of each ingredient (I already feel like I write toooo much) I would end up writing a book! I basically just gave a very brief sum-up of each ingredient mentioned.

I would love to hear from you especially if you want me to add your favorite ingredient so let me know!

Thanks

First Styling Video – Regular Normal Bun Is Up on YouTube

Good Evening Maicurlies,

buns

I did it (doing my happy dance)… I made my first styling video! So yes I have my Regular Normal Bun Video up on YouTube. It is nothing fancy at all but I do like to turn to it when I want to do a really really simple protective style or when I do not want to bother doing a big style (especially if it is going to be wash day in the next day or two.) You can watch the Video here.

The tools I use are not really “tools” but regardless: I use a super stretchy hair bubble (without the metal ending), bobby pins and my DIY Spray Leave-In Conditioner.

I should have the write up of the process on my “Buns” page in the next day or two (it really is very easy.)

Hope you enjoy my styling and the future ones!

Exercise Plan 2 Up

Hello Maicurlies,

CIMG1520

I hope everyone is having a fantastic day!

I just wanted to write a really quick post to say that I have finally loaded up my second Exercise Plan that I made (and am currently using.)

Once again I incorporated my Elliptical Machine but instead of using Fitness Blender (I still LOVE those guys) I added in some cardio and strength training using body weight. Please keep in mind that:

List of Natural Ingredients

Gooood Afternoon World Wide Web!

natural ingredient list header

After a few months of doing this (blogging) I realized I was missing something! In some of my DIY mixes I have listed why I use certain ingredients and others I haven’t. Now it gets a bit repetitive if for each individual recipe page I repeat why I use Aloe Vera Juice, Grapeseed Oil etc. SO I have come up with a solution! Write down a list of natural ingredients that I use and why! I will make two separate lists (one for hair and one for skin.) This way there is one location with all the information – name of ingredient, how it can be used, why it is used and so on. I of course use a lot of the same products for both my hair and skin but they have different benefits and nourish in different ways since they target different areas.

I will also do a little research on other natural ingredients you can use for different purposes (because my way is not the ONLY way.) This way I will have a list of not only the ingredients I use but you can refer to a list of other alternatives :)!

Ok that’s all folks (for now!)

Thanks

A very Good Morning everyone!

I would like to take a few minutes to Thank the creative writer/owner of Healthy Hair and Body Ms. Loo!
