Setting “hair goals” for the New Year – Global Couture

Hey Maicurlies,

As we are about to embark on a new year a lot of us make lists on things we would like to change, achieve or try. For some of us our lists will include family resolutions, financial saving plans, health related promises and yes Hair goals. I wrote an article about how I like to set my hair goals whenever a new year rolls along on Global Couture.

Setting hair goals for the New Year

Setting hair goals for the New Year

In the article “Setting “hair goals” for the New Year” I touch upon the “Keep It Simple Stupid” (K.I.S.S) principle that I personally find helpful. While it is great to dream and think big, it is important to try and keep our plans and goals realistic as well because if we don’t, we might end up being extremely disappointed & demotivated when we are unable to meet our goals (which might have been unachievable in the first place due to improper planning and unrealistic goals). I also touch upon the importance of a hair journal/dairy and how keeping one can really be helpful as the weeks and months go by. (Read my previous post about Hair Journals)

As for me, I have a few hair goals/resolutions that I will be sharing with you in my next post. Do you have any for 2015? I would love to hear what they are.

Happy New Year Maicurlies!

Hand In Hair Syndrome – Global Couture

Hey Maicurlies,

I wrote a new article for Global Couture that I think a few of us might have/are/will go through as a naturalista: Hand In Hair Syndrome (HIH).

Hand In Hair syndrome and how to try to combat it

Hand In Hair syndrome and how to try to combat it

In case the term is new to you all it basically means it that you “suffer” from constantly touching your hair – your hands are constantly in and and around your hair.

During my hair journey I was always touching my hair, wanting to feel my natural texture and play with my curls. Admittedly I will sometimes still play with my hair whenever I am really digging a style. In case you “suffer” from a bad case of  HIH, I provide a few potential consequences of the syndrome as well as a few solutions to try and stop touching your hair in the article: “Hand In Hair syndrome and how to try to combat it”.’

Do you “suffer” from HIH? What steps do you take to try and stop touching your hair throughout the day?

Why you should add Aloe Vera juice to your routine – Global Couture

Hey Maicurlies,

By Sommai - Aloe Vera Fresh Leaf www.freedigitalphotos.net

By Sommai – Aloe Vera Fresh Leaf http://www.freedigitalphotos.net

Some of you might be aware that I am a fan of Aloe Vera Juice (AVJ) since going back natural. I have been known to “borrow” some Aloe Vera from my mum who has a few plants in her garden and I ended up buying my own after pillaging her supplies.

Since I am a fan I of course already wrote a post about it here and also wrote an article on Global Couture about “Why you should add Aloe Vera juice to your routine”

Why you should add Aloe Vera Juice to your routine

Why you should add Aloe Vera Juice to your routine

The article highlights some of reasons why you might want to try using AVJ in your routine be it store bought or directly from the plant (which is my favorite method) as well as suggestions of how you can include it into your routine. So if you are 50/50 about using AVJ maybe a little gander at the article might convince you to give it a go.

Do you use AVJ? If so how? I would love to hear from you!

Scab Hair – A Naturalista’s Woe

Hello Maicurlies,

I read a really great article on Natura Magazine written by the insightful . The article is something I wish I had read while transitioning, especially seeing as I was completely clueless about natural hair and how to care for both my relaxed ends and natural roots.

“For Transitioners: A Lesson on Scab Hair” covers to topic of Scab hair; explaining what it is, why it happens, some of the ways you can tell if you have scab hair and how to take care of scab hair.

Like I said, very insightful and I am sure quite helpful for new transitioners or even those who might have recently big chopped, since scab hair not only affects new transitioners! If you are experiencing hard or “wiry hair” that just does not seem to want to remain moisturized and soft even though you are doing everything possible to take care of your new growth/transitioning, hair take a gander at the article. If you know you are using the right products and have a proper routine but nothing is helping, it might not be your method, you might have scab hair.

Have you experienced Scab hair? How did you deal with it?

Thanks

Natura Magazine

Hello Maicurlies!

I am super excited!!! (Doing my I am excited dance right now!)

I have been in touch with stunning Ms. Malia Brown (Editor in Chief) of the beeeaaautiful Natural Magazine & Blog “Natura Magazine” (psst) if you haven’t already checked it out then stop right now and click on the link above (and then come back of course!)

I guess the best way to explain what Natura is all about is to quote them:

“Natura Magazine gis an online publication/natural hair blog that celebrates natural hair and healthy lifestyle living. The main purpose of the magazine is to educate readers on natural hair care, healthy lifestyle and living your best life possible through fitness and nutrition. Natura (which is Latin for nature) is distributed quarterly to its subscribers and is in a league of it’s own. The content of the magazine will take its readers on a journey of what it’s like to be natural in America today while breaking down all sterotypes and highlighting the appropriate ways to care for natural hair, various styling techniques and natural hair care and skin products. Readers will also get up close and personal hair moments with their favorite celebrities as well as fitness regimens for various body types and many healthy lifestyle tips from experts themselves in the hair care, skin care, nutrition and health industries.”

The quote above basically breaks down what the online magazine/blog is all about. You have the actual “E-Magazine” and a blog with a lot of blog posts! I love the concept, content and feel of the entire site and it is FREE! If you subscribe and/or follow them you will always be informed when something new comes up. Did I mention it is FREE?!?!

So first things first. Natura will have a new magazine out on April 30th! See the cover “sneak peak” below. Once it is out I shall be sure to let you know!

Natura Spring 2014

Of course they have previous issues such as the ones below. Yes, they are “old” issues but you can still read beautiful stories, see inspiring styles and learn a few tricks from the “old” right? (I just linked the magazines to their official magazine page.)

Natura Winter 2013  Fall 2013  Natura March 2013

Like I mentioned, apart from the magazines they also have a blog with a ton of information, stories, pictures, posts etc. and it is not only about Natural Hair! So, what I plan on doing is to highlight stories from their blog that I come across and if the stories/posts/images interest you then all you have to do is click on the links and read the entire posts on their page. (Yes, I am excited LOL).

So expect to see more than just my waffling about my natural hair, skin care and health tips from now on Maicurlies! 🙂

Thank you Ms. Malia!!!

P.S I was not requested, paid or compensated to share this information or any information to come regarding Natura Magazine. I just wanted to share because I enjoy Natura Magazine.
