7 Ways To Avoid Single Strand Knots

Hey Maicurlies,

I wanted to share my latest article on Global Couture about 7 Ways to avoid Single Strand Knots”.

7 ways to avoid single strand knots

7 ways to avoid single strand knots

If you are anything like me (and most naturals I know) you have probably experienced, experiencing or potentially will experience the dreaded Single Strand  Knots (SSK’s).

If you are not plagued by SSK’s (lucky!) or are newly natural and not sure what I am talking about then let me explain: they are teeny tiny knots formed by our natural hair curling up on itself as it grows and which results in a knot! Sounds insane right? But it happens (believe you me!) The knots are also referred to as fairy knots – because they are so tiny that “fairies” must have made them.

In my article I explain the different ways in which they can be formed as well as some steps you can take to help keep the numbers down. Now, I am not saying theses are 7 ways to avoid SSK’s completely because in my experience it is close to impossible to get rid of them without cutting your hair off and chances are as you hair regrows they will return (dumdumdum) 😛 But there steps you can take to help keep them under control.

One things I will say is that as my hair has grown I have noticed more SSK’s and if I do a Wash-n-go I get more! If I don’t detangle my hair properly there they are, if I constantly wear my hair out….you guessed it…there they are!

Hopefully the article will help you get a better understanding about SSK’s, why they develop and how you can try tame them.

Do you have SSK’s? If so, what steps do you take to keep them under control? I would love to hear from you!

Thanks

Benefits and uses of Apple Cider Vinegar for Natural Hair – Global Couture

Hey Maicurlies,

Yup, I want to share yet another article I wrote for Global Couture.

The article is about Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), its properties, benefits and uses. For some of you ACV might already be part of your routine to cleanse your hair, while others use it as a final rinse to close your cuticles but did you know you can actually also make a few homemade recipes using ACV? Visit the blog and check out my article for more details!

Benefits and uses of Apple Cider Vinegar for Natural Hair

Personally, I use it as a cleanser for my hair on a weekly basis which you can read on my blog here. I have also used it diluted with water to make a face toner but I must say my Rosewater toner (I have a video about it) is to die for…that smell :D.

Do you use ACV? If so in what way? I would love to hear from you!

Thanks

What are some reasons people have given you why they “CAN’T? go natural?

Hey Maicurlies,

I have a new contribution article on Global Couture and this one can be considered as a “debate” (a constructive one I hope).

Global Couture asked the question “What are some reasons people have given you why they ‘CAN’T’ go natural?” on all of their social media platforms to start a little healthy discussion.

What are some reasons people have given you why they "CAN'T" go natural

What are some reasons people have given you why they “CAN’T” go natural

Now, I have to say I am NOT one to force anyone into anything they themselves do not want to do and that includes going back natural. Going back natural should be a personal decision made for the right reasons, basically doing it because it is something you want to do. If you try and force someone to go back natural and they are not ready chances are they will find it even harder, they might regret their decision and who knows they might actually resent you because they feel like you pressured them. So “peer-pressuring” is a no no!

However, I have come across people who have the funniest comments as to why they do not think they can go back natural. If someone says “I do not want to go back natural because I just do not want to and it is my right”. I completely agree with that instead of some of the “funny” comments I’ve heard/read.

Anyways, in the article Global Couture collected the most popular 15 “reasons” that naturals have said others told them why they can’t go natural and provided a few responses to the comments.

You can read the full article here

Have you come across similar statements? I would love to hear from you!

Thanks

Making the right product choices (part 2)

Hello Maicurlies!

I just wanted to share the second part of my contribution article on Global Couture about how you can help determine the right products for your hair depending on the width of your hair.

How to Find the RIGHT Products for Your hair - part 2 hair width

How to Find the RIGHT Products for Your hair – part 2 hair width

This is a continuation of my first article where I wrote about hair porosity and how determining our porosity can help identify which kind of products can help us on a healthy hair journey.

In part 2 I explain what hair width is, how you can try and determine the width of your hair and provide a few product suggestions based on the properties of the products and the characteristics of one’s hair width. Both porosity and width go hand in hand and can make all the difference! You can read part 2 here

Please remember these are just suggestions, I simply wanted to share how determining my hair porosity and width helped me along my hair journey.

I hope you enjoy the article!

Making the right product choices

Good Evening Maicurlies!

I am literally sitting here with 40 colourful straws on my head dreading going to bed because I know I won’t get any sleep! Anyways…

I forgot to mention that I have another contribution article on Global Couture.

How to Find the RIGHT Products for Your hair

How to Find the RIGHT Products for Your hair

This is a 2 part article where I explain how knowing your hair’s structure (its characteristics) is much more valuable when trying to find products for your hair versus trying to determine your curl pattern.

In this article (part 1) I cover the topic of hair porosity “How to Find the RIGHT Products for Your hair“. I start with going over what porosity means, how you can get an idea of your hair’s porosity (test) and based on the results of your test I suggest some products you might want to look at.

I hope you enjoy the article!
